What’s your favourite room in the house? Some of us might say the kitchen — so much deliciousness comes from there!
But others might say the bathroom. After all, it’s where you go for a long, relaxing shower or bath and it’s where you ready yourself every day to face the world.
Wouldn’t it be nice to turn your bathroom into surroundings that motivate you to tackle each day with excitement and vigour? Check out this bathroom renovation checklist to learn the steps for a successful bathroom renovation. It isn’t as difficult as you might think!
1. Dream and Design
First, think about what you want your new bathroom to look like. Forget about your budget for a second and dream big. How would you want your bathroom if money were no object?
Is everything in the right place or would you switch up the layout? Would you make it bigger or add a separate toilet room? Would you add a window or enlarge the existing one for more natural light? What type of fixtures would you choose? Even think about the colour scheme.
Now put your feet back on the ground and think about your budget. Decide which elements of your dream bathroom you’ll keep/can afford. You might be surprised how close you can get with some creative planning.
2. Cabinets/Storage
Moving along, don’t forget the cabinets and other storage in the bathroom. If your current cabinets are still in nice shape, consider refinishing them as opposed to buying new ones. No one will ever know…
Do you feel like storage space is somewhat lacking in your bathroom? Think about adding more cabinets, shelves, shower storage, etc. to make more storage area.
3. Appliances
What kind of appliances do you want in your new bathroom? Will the laundry room be in the same space or perhaps a hamper in the corner is all you need?
Do you need to update or install a new water heater? Now is a perfect time!
Tired of cold floors? Radiant heating is popular for bathrooms and not as expensive as you might think. Heated towel racks are also a nice touch.
Make sure you have good task lighting everywhere you need it. Don’t forget to have power plugs installed anywhere you will be using small appliances like curling irons and hair dryers.
4. Finishing Touches
You’re almost there! Now it’s time to consider the cherries on top of your bathroom remodel. Add some blinds or shutters, hang a full-length mirror, put in a fancy showerhead to give your bathroom that “resort” feel.
Change out the taps and fixtures, re-top the vanity with new material and add a splashback. Think ahead and install grab bars and non-slip tiles to make it easier to use the bathroom as you age.
